Examination

IIUI Schools engage students in all aspects of their learning and to ensure a balanced view of the student’s strengths and weaknesses an effective assessment system is inevitable. In a balanced assessment system, both summative and formative assessments are an integral part of information on student’s progress. Depend too much on one or the other and the reality of student achievement in a classroom becomes unclear. At IIUI Schools, this is maintained through a year-round in practice assessment policy and formally arranged comprehensive end of the term examinations for Grade 3-8 twice in an academic year.

Paper

Assessment

Reception to Grade 2

There are no formal end-of-term assessments in these classes. In Reception, Reception 1 and Reception 2 assessment is informal as there are no written tests. For Grade 1 and 2 no end-of-term exams are applicable but simple written assessments without grading will be used. First and Second Term report cards will be issued based on students’ formative assessment and work portfolios.

Examination

Grade 3-8

Major components of merit-based exam policy are ‘course work’ and examination for above grades. Two major exams will take place in one academic year, which is at the end of both terms. First Term report cards will be issued in January and Second / Final Report cards will be issued in June.

There will be one intermediary assessment report in each term sent to the parents, i.e. 1st assessment report in the last week of October and 2nd in the last week of March. Assessments may be based on assignments, projects, completion of one topic/unit, class work, or group work. Assessment Report will include average of Monthly Assessments. Only one assignment or project is allowed in a month.

Reporting

At IIUI Schools, comprehensive end of term reports for Reception to Grade 8 are written so that they have a positive effect on pupils’ attitude, motivation and self-esteem. However, Students’ Progress Reports for Reception to Grade 2 are written on the basis of formative assessments done throughout the term while Students’ Progress Reports for Grade 3 to 8 are a combination of both formative and summative assessment.

A distinct feature of terminal report for Grades 3 to 8 is the systematically determined ratio/marks allocation for assessment (marks secured in term tests) and examination (marks secured in the papers) as per the recent research and studies on assessment mix.
